Kings Dominion is an amusement park in Doswell, Virginia Hanover County, 23 miles (37 km) north of Richmond and 83 miles (134 km) south of Washington, DC on Interstate 95.
Part of 400 acres (1.6 km2) park is currently owned by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, and was the former Paramount Parks chain that Cedar Fair acquired from CBS Corporation on June 30, 2006. The park was named after its sister park, Kings Island Kings Mills, Ohio, which opened in 1972. The two parks have been built and owned by Kings Entertainment Co. aka Keco. While Kings Island has been appointed as a combination of Kings Mills (location) and Coney Island (the theme park that was built to replace), Kings Dominion name has been more probably a reference to the nickname of Virginia as "Old Dominion".

History
Early history as Kings Dominion (1975-89)
The park entrance seen from the observation deck of the replica of the Tower Eiffel
Kings Dominion officially opened in 1975 with 15 rides. However, in 1974, the park had a "soft" (partial, bass) opening for attraction now defunct Lion Country Safari and junior roller coaster, now called Scooby Doo Coaster rooler. Also in 1974, the park has completed Rebel Yell mountains roller racing (designed by John Allen of the Philadelphia Toboggan Company), but it would not open until 1975 with the rest park. When the park began in the spring of 1975, it also included a log flume, antique cars, steam trains, and a collection of rides. Another roller coaster, Galaxy, was located in the Grove next to the artificial Lake Charles, which took up 10 acres (40,000 m2) of property park. In addition, Kings Dominion 1/3-scale replica of the Eiffel Tower, which has an observation deck from which visitors can see the whole Park was opened by the first park full season. In addition to the Lion Country Safari, the theme park areas have been called The Happy Land of Hanna-Barbera Old Virginia, and Coney Island (renamed Candy Apple Grove before next season).
Kings Dominion added their fourth roller coaster, a Schwarzkopf shuttle loop known as King Kobra, 1977. The King Kobra featured a 50-ton launch weight against abandonment and was the first Russian fleet launched coaster. It was in the park for nine seasons before being transferred to Jolly Roger Amusement Park in Ocean City, Maryland. After several relocations, it continues working day at Hopi Hari Katapul Brazil. Also in 1977, Kings Dominion is one of the parks used as decorations for film Rollercoaster.
In addition to King Kobra, Kings Dominion opened a campground and its famous mountain Lost World before the late 1970s. Originally The Lost World, featuring three towers: a flume ride called Journey to Atlantis, the attraction for children known as the Land of Dooz, called Time and a rotor shaft. Journey to Atlantis has been replaced by the river Haunted theme flume in 1980. Kings Dominion added their second wooden roller coaster, the Grizzly, in forests Old Virginia section of the park in 1982. Kings Dominion opened a fast path, White Water Canyon, in Old Virginia in 1983. Also in 1983, a boy of 13 died while riding on a roller coaster Galaxy. A swing, a pirate ship known as reversing the Berserker added the International Year Street follows. In 1984, a tour Smurf, Smurf Mountain to replace the path in the mine Lost World. Therefore, the lost world was known as Smurf Mountain. The Mountains was reconstructed in 1997 and was occupied only by Volcano: The Blast Coaster since 1998.
The replica of the Eiffel Tower at Kings Dominion
After three seasons without a new roller coaster, Kings Dominion has unveiled its TOGO stand-up rollercoaster, Shockwave, in 1986, the same year that the park King Kobra removed. Shockwave, like King Cobra, has a loop, but also a propeller. (Mountains of the same name King Cobra at Kings Island roller, which was a stand-up coaster similar to Shockwave, closed in 2002.) The third and last roller coaster that Kings Dominion added in the 1980s has been Avalanche which remains the only Russian Mack bobsled coaster in the United States. Trains avalanches are themed after the United States, France, Germany, Canada Bobsleigh and Switzerland, so that riders on trains can be simulated in a different race Bobsleigh Olympic Winter Games.
Although Lion Country Safari attraction was the first portion of the park opened, it was eliminated after Paramount bought the park. Much Lion Country Safari occupied the land behind the Anaconda roller coaster, Kings Dominion is still the owner of the land, but used most especially for backup rather than opening new attractions. Diamond Falls, another flume, founded in 1985 until closing in 2002. Three series Rivers Racing slide water slides created in 1987 and remained open during the early 1990s.
Early 1990s/transition property Paramount
Kings Dominion continued adding new areas of the park in the early to mid 1990s. In 1990, they expanded Hanna-Barbera Land to include more rides for children. The 1991 season saw the addition of their next major roller coaster, the Arrow looper Anaconda, which was also the first major Eight of the world to be equipped with an underwater tunnel. (The tunnel went through Lake Charles.) Anaconda was also originally presented as having six loops and continues to be billed that way. However, contrary to Drachen Fire, a looper six reversal Arrow has been opened Busch Gardens Williamsburg the following year, the Anaconda was only four inversions: a vertical loop, a sidewinder, and two consecutive corkscrews.
Kings Dominion opened its water park as Hurricane Reef in 1992. In his first season, the first featuring the Falls monsoon (two pairs of blades falling body, 70 and 50 feet (15 m) high, respectively), the torrential Twist (two slides closed body which ended around each other), Pipeline (four slides open body), Cyclone (three slides closed, the center of which was in free fall), Tidal Wave (both blades open, which riders rode on inner tubes, Splash Island (an area for children five water slides), and a lazy river. To build the water park, Kings Dominion filled two-thirds of Lake Charles nearest the Candy Apple Grove Park area, Anaconda continued to spend the rest of the lake.

Kings Dominion Theatre (named "The Paramount Theatre" at the time of Paramount Parks)
Kings Dominion Logo used from 1993 – 2002 during the Paramount years (a revised version was used from 2003-06)
Kings Dominion continued growth when it became part of Paramount Parks in 1993 and spent her name to Paramount's Kings Dominion. New attractions and areas of the theme park television programs and movies released by Paramount's Kings Dominion Paramount in almost every season they were under Paramount property. Also Smurf Mountain was withdrawn in 1995, leaving a dormant mountain fiberglass rear park.
In 1996, Paramount's Kings Dominion has submitted its second roller coaster launched and the first LIM-launched roller coaster, The Outer Limits: Flight of Fear. (Six Flags America, a park nearby in Maryland, features a different "spaghetti bowl" of roller coaster with the same presentation as Flight of Fear, known as Joker's Jinx. Joker's Jinx, however, is an outdoor roller coaster.) Volcano, which was built by Intamin AG, was first launched inverted roller LIM coaster in the world. Hypersonic XLC, a surge of air-launched coaster Air 2000 made by S & S Power, launched runners 0-80 miles (130 km) per hour in 1.5 seconds, taking their place a 87-degree incline and a decline of 87-degrees. The entire trip takes about 25 seconds. Hypersonic XLC broke down frequently and was closed for the first three months of its second season, no other Paramount Parks installed a similar route. However, Hypersonic XLC helped establish the reputation of Paramount's Kings Dominion as "the capital of mountains launched the world. "Hypersonic XLC was withdrawn after the 2007 season.

The control of Paramount Parks was transferred from Viacom to CBS Corporation at the beginning of the 2006 season, the parks had themselves been for sale since last season off. Firstly, a roller coaster based on The Italian Job had been advertised on television as being open in early 2006, the park of the season, when he has not really opened up late May, nearly two months of the season. The establishment of the race was rather dubious, some fans mocked the management of the park last entry of The Italian Job, which was the subject of further street in the middle of Congo African theme park, near the section on the Anaconda roller coaster. Second, visitors to the park during the 2006 season showed that trees in the queue of the Grizzly were cut to make way for a new go-cart upcharge attraction called Thunder Raceway. Third, Paramount's Kings Dominion closed Flight of Fear. Paramount's Kings Dominion has given no indication of the previous season that the flight of fear would be closed for 2006. Rumours had suggested he would be transferred to another former Paramount, since Cedar Fair acquired Paramount's Kings Dominion, the park has worked to get the route functioning again. Flight of Fear has reopened on August 18, putting an end to rumors of relocation of the attraction and / or sale.

This is an indoor coaster in complete darkness on the subject of a settlement site 51 military-style. It was renamed in 2001 when Paramount was disqualified from the Outer Limits. In 2001, the harness on the shoulder have been replaced by restrictions bar round after five seasons of customers complaining of a rough ride experience.
Intimidator 305 (under construction, scheduled for April 2010) giga coaster is the second in North America (third in the world), after Millennium Force at Cedar Point. The trip, the name and theme of the end of NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Sr., sits on land originally used for the Lion Country Safari that had been used since the Safari closed in the years 1990. With a cable system similar to the Hill Millennium Group, Intimidator 305 takes riders 305 feet before they go to 85 degrees, drop of 300 feet first. Its height is the height of Drop Tower: Scream Zone and its first drop corresponds to the first drop of Millennium Force. It will be the biggest decline to date on mountains giga. speed of the attraction of 92 miles per hour will be the fastest ever achieved by a ridge located in Kings Dominion, and the fifth fastest roller coaster in North America.
WaterWorks
WaterWorks, Kings Dominion water park, can be considered in terms of its two sides, Northside was formerly known as Hurricane Reef, and Southside is the new section of aqueduct. The towers that Hurricane WaterWorks Reef was in the mid-1990s are all located opposite the roller coaster Rebel Yell, the towers are the latest behind the Rebel Yell and are accessible walk under the Rebel Yell on a bridge between the curves Baja and Shoot the Curl. The original attractions Hurricane Reef received new names at Kings Dominion renamed WaterWorks water park in 1999.
Lazy Rider (opened 1992, Lazy River) is a lazy river that travels through the center of the water park. Except freestyle all remaining slides open behind Hurricane Reef Vacation Lazy Rider, which allows the lazy river to have several short tunnels during its course. In 2005, the entrance to the Rider's Lazy and output are located on different parts of the river, which kept the riders to more than one lap of it without having to leave.
Baja Bends (opened in 1992 in the pipeline) is a set of four water slides located open green Lazy and behind the driver in front of Lake Charles. The Baja Bends Travel slides Lazy Rider and end in a basin of water landing.
Spiral Chute (open 1992 as torrential Twist) is a pair of runners ended around another spiral. The queue for Spiral Chute passes under Anaconda Station Charging the slides has been built on the lake. Spiral Chute was closed for part of 2005 because the construction of roads Backlot Stunt Coaster on has been reduced due to its queue, making the station accessible. The slides reopened in 2006, but has spiral Fall not been opened for the 2009 season, due to structural deficiencies of the platform structure, and he is now standing, but does not work.
Shoot the Curl (Opened in 1992 as the cyclone) is a set of three slides blue seal in front of the Rebel Yell, the slides travel on the Lazy Rider. The slide is a slide skydiving center, but not as big as the night cursor Pipeline Peak. The other two blades mirror each other and have propellers to 360 degrees.
Freestylin '(opened in 1992 as Tidal Wave) is a pair of white open blades, runners who run on a single individual tubes, the end of slides landing in a pool. Because the riders each carry their own tubes, the journey of two separate loading stations on towers connected, and the queue, begins as a queue, is divided into two parts of the climb.
Big Wave Bay (opened 1999), the park wave pool first, holds 650.000 gallons of water, its wave machines generate waves of four feet.
Surf City Splash House (opening 1999) is a multi-level water play with several small slides and a bucket that dumps 800 gallons on all its water customers for several minutes.
Lil 'Barefoot Beach (opened 1999) is a structure of small water playground for young children.
Pipeline Peak (opened 2000), the structure of the park's largest slide in 2006, is a set of four blades attached manufactured by ProSlide. The upper level of the tower features two body slides: Night Slider, which at 77 feet (23 meters) high, is the world's tallest freefall slide in dark water, and energy Plunge, a long blade twist that is 77 feet (23 meters) tall at its beginning. Turbo Twister and Rip Slide, which are around 50 feet (15 meters) lower level, raft slides are two people who open several locations in the middle of their Race to splash water on the riders.
Tidal Wave Bay (opened 2007) is the second wave pool park. Several other Cedar Fair parks include several pools wave. Dorney Park has opened a second wave pool in 2006, California's Great America will also open their second wave pool in 2007, and Michigan's Adventure has three swimming pools with waves of varying sizes and depths.
Tornado (opened 2007) is a blade 65 feet in height, which deposits riders into a large funnel. Tornadoes ProSlide opened in the Six Flags and many more other Cedar Fair parks in the early 2000s, Kings Dominion is the second former Paramount to receive a tornado.
Zoom Flume (opened 2007) is a blade of four-person family raft.
